.The International Energy Agency forecasts an 84 percent increase in global energy demand and a doubling of carbon dioxide emissions between 2007 and 2050. Since 2008, the "TECO Green Tech Contest" has been held to address increasing global energy demands that require new efficient technologies, reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and protect the environment. Participating students research possible "Green Tech" solutions that create friendly energy resources, materials and applications.

.Since 2010 students from leading Chinese universities in the study of energy savings and emission reductions have been invited to participate in the TECO Green Tech Contest's international competition, which has encouraged dialogue among students on both sides of the Taiwan Strait on relevant technologies. The international competition has received much positive feedback. Participants in this year's TECO Green Tech Contest include teams not only from the ten selected outstanding universities in China, but also from such as Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong and Russia. The participation of these universities has furthered the educational exchange on energy-saving and emission-reducing technologies among Asian countries.

.An international educational exchange on technical creativity has also happened on Facebook and Sina Weibo, two of the most popular social networks in Taiwan and China and hosted by all previous Contest participators, where participating teams and the public interact through the posting of the latest international news about energy saving and emission reduction. Two issues that the TECO "Green Tech" social network highlights are Germany's plans to shut down its nuclear power plants by 2022 and the European Union Emission Trading Scheme regarding energy-saving and emission-reducing technologies that impact industrial structures as well as economic life.

.Since 2008, more than four hundred teams were registered in “TECO Green Tech”; over one thousand and five hundred participants were eligible to enter the “Initial Qualification Review”.

.Year 2012, 159 teams were registered and 102 teams successfully entered into the “Initial Qualification Review”. By looking at this data, there’s no doubt “TECO Green Tech” has gained wide support and attention from the students and faculty of domestic universities and colleges.

.Through this competition, outstanding works may have opportunities to cooperate with industrial leading companies. For example, two leading companies-Philips and Inventec have proposed to transfer the technology developed from the champion work of 2012 (Super low power-consumption piezoelectric fan cooling system) by “National Taiwan University” team.
